Shanti and Cory at the farm

Shanti and Cory at the farm

“Across the way, Cory Rade and Shanti Rade — the latter of whom carried 7-month-old Cooper Rade across her belly in a colorful sling — sold bunches of long-stemmed carrots, heads of fresh lettuce and bundles of herbs out of blue bins and off of wooden slat shelves they’d set up under a tent. The duo had driven a spacious trailer from Paulden to sell produce from their family-owned Whipstone Farm.

“And Cory Rade was handing out fresh slices of Japanese salad turnips as if they were candy.

“Shanti quickly bagged customer’s purchases and took care of transactions. Her parting remark: ‘Thank you. Enjoy your vegetables.”

We hope you enjoy this selection of recipes and stories from life on our farm.

“I believe that the great Creator has put ores and oil on this Earth to give us a breathing spell…as we exhaust them, we must be prepared to fall back on our farms, which are God’s true storehouse. We can learn to synthesize materials for every human need from things that grow.”
– George Washington Carver (1864-1943)

Cory’s specialty of growing hot peppers and roasting those babies to perfection is not to be missed. We stocked up for the winter and are still burning with delight to this day. Love those recipies!

Sorrel has become our newest loved “veggie” (herb). I usually just chiffonade the leaves and saute them in olive oil. Delicious. I tried the sorrel and leek custard on the web site and it is WONDERFUL. It’s easy, and impressive to serve. Try it – you’ll like it!

I bought canning tomatos from you in Chino Valley at the Farmers Market (my first time ever at a Farmers Market in Arizona). The tomatos are awesome deep red color, juicy and they taste yummy. I haven’t had a tomatos this good since I grew my own in Iowa over 8 yrs ago. I’m making my own sauce and it smells great. Keep doing what you are doing because you are doing a great job. I look forward to buying much more from your farm in the future. Thank you!

Every year I look forward to buying veggies from Whipstone Farms at the farmer’s market in Chino Valley. The heads of lettuce are the biggest, sweetest, most succulent ones I have ever tasted. I love it when Cory roasts the chiles, so I don’t have to and they sure are delicious. They have the biggest and tastiest selection of produce in the area. We are so lucky to have them providing us with a variety of healthy, organic, fresh produce. Love you guys. Keep up the good work.
